Beth offers private riding lessons and clinics that apply Pilates principles to the skills of riding.
In a riding lesson, you will bring focus, effective breathing, postural awareness and support, and supple movement to your riding. You will learn how your horse moves at each gait, and how you should move with it. This improves timing of your aids and responsiveness from the horse. You will use your body in a logical and healthy way to improve balance and harmony with your horse.
Beth offers a wonderful riding lesson environment in her newly constructed 72’ X 156’ covered riding arena with sand/wood chip footing. There is a full wall of mirrors along one short side for feedback. The arena site provides a quiet and focused atmosphere for your lesson.
There is plenty of room Beth’s beautiful new barn for you to tack up before your ride. There are extra stalls, allowing you to house your horse if you want to do a Pilates session or class before your ride! This is a great way to maximize the benefits of Pilates to your riding.
Beth can also travel to your arena to teach; a travel fee may be added.
Fees:
- Riding lesson at my barn: $55
- Riding lesson at your barn: $60 plus possible travel fee.
At this time I do not have school horses.
“I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the help you give. My horse was SO good today, I have never felt a horse be so transformed by what could be described as ‘little’ changes to the way I sit!”
Riding Lessons
“Nobody understands the complexities of the physical relationship between horse and rider like Beth.”
“Beth teaches me to ride in a way that clarifies how the action of my body impacts my horse. We work on basics to make the harder movements more expressive and correct. As a Fourth Level dressage competitor, it is more important than ever to know that I am doing everything I can to make my horse’s job easier. I have a better feel for how my body helps or hinders the movements and the transitions between gaits.”
“I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the help you give. My horse was SO good today, I have never felt a horse be so transformed by what could be described as “little” changes to the way I sit!”
“Thanks for the lesson! The “ring of bone” analogy for the pelvis was the BEST for me. I totally get a different feeling from that in my brain than trying to find my seat bones and imagine what they’re supposed to be doing. I’m ‘sore’ today but in muscles that formerly felt cramped to one side – now it feels like they opened up and stretched out like they should be doing. That’s a good type of sore.”
“I wanted to thank you for the GREAT lesson today!! I learned so much and I’m so excited to start practicing it tomorrow! You gave me a lot of great ideas and hints and I loved your “focus” tips for both my riding and my horse’s performance.”
“You are a terrific instructor. My horse and I benefit so much from our lessons with you….not just from your ability to bring the two of us together at the time of the lesson, but that you use techniques that I can duplicate on my own.”
“Our lesson yesterday was magical! I didn’t realize how busy I was in the saddle and how that business was sending too many messages to my horse. He and I had a fabulous ride in the park after our lesson. I felt like we were really communicating, he responded to every aid I gave him. Thank you!”
“Thank you for such an awesome lesson yesterday. You pointed out all the weak spots I have been struggling with, offering solutions that will make me a better rider for the years to come! I am very excited to work again with you.”
“Thank you for coming out and helping me find some lost abdominal muscles while sitting on the horse.”
“I credit Beth’s RiderPilates instruction and riding lessons with keeping my back strong and pain-free. Her remarkable background as a medical doctor, rider, and Pilates instructor enables her to reinforce what I learn in her studio with what I learn from her on horseback. Consequently, I’m more balanced and confident in my aids because I have a much clearer understanding of how my body can affect a horse’s movement. Thanks, Beth!”
“The subtle changes in you made in my position have influenced my connection with my horse, allowing him to become through; the ultimate for any dressage rider. Thanks Beth!”
“As I galloped across the wetlands, though sand, water, vegetation, and perhaps quicksand, on a pony with no brakes and no steering, in a group of 11 horses following a wild French horseman, I thought, “Plank! Plank! The only way I am going to survive this is to hold myself up with core muscles, stay in balance, and let the horse do his best. Plank!” Thanks to Beth’s RiderPilates program, I found I had the core strength to gallop very fast over rugged terrain. I never fell off, and never felt out of balance!”
“Taking up riding in middle age isn’t easy. Becoming a competent rider is fraught with difficulties that are sometimes overwhelming! Beth takes the time to focus intently on the rider’s position, which is essential to becoming an effective rider. I’ve learned to ride with my horse, not just on top of it! With Beth’s instruction in both riding and pilates, I’ve made important changes that have resulted in a real improvement in my riding.”
