2009 Solstice Celebration and Tree Olympics, by the numbers
57 people attended the Glosten/Stutz SCTO this year, ages 4 to well over 50. With 6 per team, 5 teams ran “Team Tree”, with Team 5 taking the gold. Twenty one folks attempted the Caber Tree Toss; the longest distance 24’5″, the shortest, minus 3′. Twenty-seven attempted Tree Darts; 9 teams of 4 ran the Tree Relay Race – winning time 27.5 seconds. Five brave teams of 3 or 4 creatively maneuvered the obstacles in the Tree Freestyle; the “Saps” won with a score of 8.5 (scale 0-10) by oozing around in amoeba-like fashion.
We drank 3 gallons of spiced cider along with lots of wine. This morning the dishwasher disgorged 26 wine glasses and countless plastic ones. Among many other things, 2 pounds of chicken livers, 6 pounds of cheese, 2 pounds of butter, 8 onions, 2 pounds of salami, and 7 cups of sugar disappeared into happy tummies in various spreads, dips, sweets, and terrines.

The buffet
Donner Girl received at least 3000 pets as she greeted game participants guided to the 72′ X 156′ indoor arena venue by 75 lights along her paddock fence. Back inside, 16 candles, celebrating solstice, went unlit because I forgot. I slept for 10 hours that night.
