I am excited to welcome Donner Girl to my barn. This pretty 2004 bay mare is by Don Gregory out of Whiskey Girl. Her grand-sire is Donnerhall. She is a nice size, 16+ hands, and has 3 white socks.

I chose this horse out of the sixteen I rode on a whirlwind trip to Europe because of three reasons. First, she met all my criteria: price range, age range, size, dressage potential. The second reason, related to her potential, is the quality of her gaits. She is very light-footed with great natural balance. And she has a good walk! The third, which ended up being a rare finding, was a sense when riding her that she tried to listen to me, and not just barrel along. So the vetting, transport, and quarantine, and finally, she arrived here on Thursday, August 27, 2009. Many thanks to Suzanne Hudson and Northwest Dressage for helping with the whole process.

Donner Girl

I suggested to my husband that we change her name. He objected, and said that her name makes her sound like an super hero. In fact, “donner” means “thunder” and there is a Thunder Girl comic book character out there:
